One person was killed, and 13 others were injured in a road accident involving six vehicles at the White House area in Nakuru town.
According to police, the accident occurred when a lorry carrying sand lost its brakes and collided with several cars.
The Nakuru East Base Commander’s report stated that the accident took place along the Solai-Nakuru road at around 3 pm.
The vehicles involved included a Mitsubishi lorry, a Toyota Corolla from a driving school, a private Nissan van, a matatu, another Toyota Corolla, and an Isuzu lorry.
The report explained that the Mitsubishi lorry, traveling from the Solai area toward Nakuru, failed to stop after its brakes malfunctioned.
The lorry lost control and crashed into the other vehicles, resulting in one passenger being fatally injured.
Additionally, one driver and six passengers were seriously injured, while seven passengers sustained minor injuries.
The injured were rushed to the Provincial General Hospital in Nakuru for treatment, while the body of the deceased was taken to the same facility for preservation and a postmortem.
The involved vehicles were removed from the scene and towed to the station for inspection.
This accident adds to the rising number of road fatalities across the country as the festive season progresses.
Just a day earlier, six people lost their lives in two separate accidents in Narok County.
Five people died on the Narok-Bomet road after a 14-seater matatu collided head-on with a school bus around 6 pm on Sunday.
Police attributed the crash to reckless overtaking by the school bus at a bridge.
At least 26 people were injured, with three passengers dying instantly and two women and a girl succumbing to their injuries while receiving treatment at Ololulunga Subcounty Hospital, according to Narok police boss Rico Ngare.
On Saturday, another fatal accident occurred on the Narok-Bomet road in Tegero when a Toyota car and a passenger bus collided head-on at around 4 am.
The Toyota driver lost control and veered into the bus’s lane.
One person in the car died, and three others were injured. Fortunately, none of the bus passengers were harmed.
