The Amani National Congress (ANC) and the Parliamentary fraternity are mourning the death of Nominated Member of Parliament Joseph Khamis Denar, who passed away early Saturday morning following a road accident in the Loresho area of Nairobi.
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula confirmed the incident, saying the MP died at about 7:00am, after which his body was moved to the Lee Funeral Home.
Circumstances under which the accident happened were not clear.
In a communication to the House, Speaker Wetang’ula described the late Denar as a humble, diligent and committed legislator whose contribution to national service will be sorely missed.
“It is with profound sorrow that I hereby notify the House and the entire Parliamentary fraternity of the untimely demise of Nominated Member, the late Denar Joseph Hamisi, MP,” Wetang’ula announced.
Denar was nominated to the National Assembly after the 2022 General Election under the ANC party.
Until his death, he served in the Departmental Committee on Sports and Culture and the Select Committee on National Cohesion and Equal Opportunities.
Born in 1969 in Kinango, the late MP pursued his education at Mombasa Baptist High School before earning multiple degrees, including a Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management and a Master’s in International Business Administration (MIBA) from USIU.
He later obtained a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Nairobi.
Denar had an extensive career in both public and private sectors. His previous appointments included senior positions such as Director, Coast Development Authority (2007–2010), Commissioner, Electoral Commission of Kenya (2007–2008), Director, Kenya Airports Authority (2009–2012), Director, Kenya National Accreditation Services (2011–2012), Council Member, University of Nairobi (2013–2018) and Council Member, Moi University (2021–2022).
Speaker Wetang’ula praised him as a leader remembered for “humility and steadfast commitment to service to the nation.”
A special team led by Deputy Leader of the Majority Party Owen Baya has been appointed to coordinate the MP’s funeral arrangements in consultation with his family.
Condolence messages continue to pour in from colleagues, friends and members of the public as the country comes to terms with the sudden loss.
