Residents of Nanyuki on Wednesday , April 23, woke up to the chilling reality that a dangerous overnight incident unfolded right in their backyard, while many were still fast asleep.

In the early hours of the morning, a routine police check quickly spiraled into a high-stakes chase after officers discovered a suspicious vehicle hidden in bushes near Muthaiga.

According to reports, as police closed in, one of the occupants inside the fleeing vehicle pulled out a firearm and opened fire on the officers.

The response was swift and decisive, with police returning fire in a dramatic exchange that shattered the silence of the pre-dawn hours.

The chase came to a halt when the vehicle veered off into the bushes.

In a scene described by witnesses as “something straight out of a movie,” the suspects abandoned the car and fled in different directions under the cover of darkness.

One female suspect was later apprehended while attempting to hide inside a nearby compound.

She is currently in police custody and is said to be assisting with ongoing investigations.

However, several other suspects remain at large, prompting a full-scale manhunt in the area.

The incident has left residents shaken, with many expressing concern over how close danger crept to their homes.

Authorities are urging locals to remain vigilant, secure their homes, and report any suspicious activity immediately.

This is not a story from the usual urban hotspots like Nairobi or Kisumu, this happened in Nanyuki, a town often perceived as quiet and secure.

And perhaps the most important lesson from this dramatic encounter?

When police signal you to stop, stopping might just save your life.
