Gunmen on motorbike shoot businessman in the leg, rob him Sh350,000 in Busia Town


Detectives are investigating an incident where a businessman was shot and injured in a robbery incident in Busia Town.

The victim was shot in the right leg ankle by the gunmen who were armed with an AK47 rifle in the December 31, 2025 incident, police said. The attackers grabbed Sh350,000 from him.

The incident happened at the victim’s hardware store which is few meters away from the main Kenya-Uganda border at Madua A village.

The gang of two had arrived on board a motorcycle and while covering their faces before they struck.

They escaped towards Uganda after the 4 pm shooting, police said adding a hunt on them was ongoing.

The victim was rushed to the hospital and admitted in a stable condition as police visited the scene and collected a spent cartridge of 7.62 special.

And a mob set on fire a saloon car that had been abandoned by suspected livestock thieves in Konyango area, Ugenya, Siaya County.

The said thieves escaped the scene in the 4 am drama on December 31. Police said they are investigating the owner of the car.

Elsewhere in Nyamage village, Kisii County, a suspect was lynched by a mob on claims he was a thief in the area.

Police said they are investigating the incident as they condemned the same. Police discourage mob lynching and want suspects to be surrendered to authorities for action.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other investigations.

Cases of mob lynching have been on the rise amid efforts to address the trend. Most cases are pending unsolved.

Statistics show up to three cases are reported daily in the country which is alarming.

Police have in some instances arrested and charged with serious offences those who participated in the acts. Investigations show that in some instances, victims are framed up and killed with a motive.
