Suspected thieves raid school store and steal 7,446 assorted text books in Mutuini, Nairobi


Detectives are investigating an incident where suspected thieves raided a store at Gitiba Primary School in Dagoretti area, Nairobi and stole 7,446 text books.

The headteacher of the school said they had opened for the team on January 10 when they discovered the assorted textbooks bearing the name of the school were missing.

The doors to the store were not broken. This indicated the thieves had an access to the store, police said.

Police said the value of the books was put at Sh5.9 million. A team is investigating the incident.

Meanwhile, in Kiritiri, Embu County, a 14-year-old boy drowned in river Thiba.

He was a grade nine pupil at Machanga Primary School. The boy had left his home together with others for swimming sessions in the area when he drowned.

The body was retrieved from the water after the January 11 tragedy and moved to the mortuary, police said.

In Naibei, Uasin Gishu County, a businessman said he was robbed of Sh250,000 in an attack at his home by suspected thugs.

The incident happened within the compound of the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital on January 11. No one was in the house when the breaking happened.

Police said they are investigating the incident.

In Tunyai area, Tharaka Nithi County, a suspect was lynched by a mob over claims he was a thief. The victim was identified as Martin Mwiti, 29 and was accused of being a habitual thief in the area.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending other procedures. Police said they had opened murder investigations in the incident that happened on January 11.

Such incidents have been on the rise at an alarming rate amid calls for action to address the trend.

Police said the incidents are under probe for now.
