Man killed in fire incident in Limuru, Kiambu County


A 25-year-old man was killed in a fire incident in a village in Limuru, Kiambu County.

Police said the fire broke out in a semi-permanent house occupied by John Muigai and killed him in Mabruok area on March 1, 2026.

The cause of the fire was not immediately established but locals said they suspected it was ignited by a burning gas cylinder. Locals responded and managed to contain the spread of the fire before finding the body of Muigai therein. Police visited the scene and moved the body to the mortuary.

In Githurai Mwiki area, a woman aged 105 was found dead in her bed. Her family said she died in peace in her house on Sunday morning and that the body was moved to the mortuary for other procedures. She was identified as Waruguru Karinga.

In Makuyu, Muranga County, a woman was found dead and her body hanging on a tree with a headscarf tied around her neck. It is not clear if she died by suicide, police said as they moved the body to the mortuary pending identification and autopsy.

And a 12-year-old girl was left devastated after she found her mother dead following a suicide incident in Limuru, Kiambu County.

The deceased woman had arrived home late and looking intoxicated and asked the girl for a pen and paper. She then wrote down the mobile numbers of her sister and husband saying she loved them.

According to the police, the woman proceeded to her bedroom leaving the daughter in the sitting room and hanged herself using a rope. Her body was found hanging on a truss with the rope tied around the neck.

The daughter cut the rope using a kitchen knife in efforts to rescue her in vain. Police said the incident happened on March 1 dawn and they are investigating the motive.

The body was moved to the mortuary for other procedures. Suicide cases have been on the rise amid calls for action to address the trend.
