A tragic domestic incident in Manyatta ‘B’ slums, Kisumu East Sub-County, left a woman dead and her husband seriously injured following a mob attack.
Police said Roseline Achieng Odhiambo, 37, was found lifeless in her home with multiple injuries.
The incident came to light after her neighbor reported hearing loud commotions emanating from the couple’s house.
Boda boda riders who responded to the scene reportedly cornered the husband who was attempting to flee. Eyewitnesses said the suspect had allegedly assaulted his wife before neighbors intervened. The riders subjected him to mob justice, leaving him seriously injured.
Police later arrived and took the suspect into custody while the body was transported to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) morgue, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances leading to the assault and have urged residents to allow law enforcement to handle criminal cases to prevent further tragedies.
Elsewhere, police in Narok County are investigating the death of an unidentified woman found lifeless near a culvert along the Narok–Nakuru Road.
The incident was reported after the woman, believed to be around 30 years old, was discovered with preliminary reports indicating the deceased had been seen loitering in local bars the previous day.
Police officers who responded to the scene confirmed that the body had no visible injuries.
Police said the body was transported to the Narok morgue, where it awaits a postmortem examination.
And a 37-year-old man died after his house was engulfed in flames in Mpuri, Imenti North Sub-County, in a suspected arson incident.
Police said the fire was first reported at around 9:00 p.m. on March 18 and the deceased, identified as Erick Mwenda, was reportedly heard screaming for help from inside his two-bedroom wooden house by his mother.
A Samaritan who responded to the distress call and attempted to force open the door but could not gain entry as it was locked from the inside, and the fire had already intensified.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and the estimated value of the property is yet to be determined.
The body was transported to Meru General Hospital mortuary for preservation, pending a post-mortem examination.
