Man succumbs to injuries after alleged attack in Bungoma


Detectives in Bungoma County launched a manhunt for a suspect linked to a fatal assault in Kabuchai area, Bungoma Central Sub-County.

The incident was reported on March 28, 2026, at around 10:45 a.m., after a man was found unconscious earlier that morning.

The victim, identified as 32-year-old Peter Simiyu Raiti, was discovered lying at the edge of Pongola–Kabuchai Road in Siuna Village with a severe head injury.

It is alleged that Raiti was attacked by a known man, who reportedly found him cutting grass on his land using a hand sickle.

During the confrontation, the suspect is said to have inflicted a deep cut to the back of the victim’s head.

Raiti was initially rushed to Nalondo Model Health Centre before being referred to Bungoma County Referral Hospital due to the severity of his injuries. He, however, succumbed while undergoing treatment.

His body has since been moved to the Bungoma County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a postmortem examination.

Police officers visited and processed the scene as investigations into the incident continue. The suspect remains at large.

Elsewhere, police in Kasarani Sub-County, Nairobi launched investigations following the sudden death of a middle-aged man in Kahawa West.

Residents alerted authorities after spotting a man lying motionless near Kiura Apartment on Saturday.

Officers who visited the scene confirmed the incident and established that the man, initially unidentified, was found lying in a supine position with no visible physical injuries.

Preliminary information from neighbours later identified the deceased as Muriuki Wambugu, a 45-year-old garbage collector known within the area.

Residents indicated that he had a history of habitual alcohol consumption.

The scene was processed by crime scene officers from Kasarani, and the body was moved to Mweiga Funeral Home pending a postmortem examination to determine the cause of death.

Police have commenced investigations into the incident
