Police have announced temporary traffic disruptions within Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) to facilitate major events taking place on Thursday, April 9.
In a statement, the Kenya Police Service said the measures are aimed at ensuring security during the Africa Urban Forum at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) and President William Ruto’s scheduled address at the Nairobi County Assembly at City Hall.
“We wish to inform the public of temporary traffic disruptions within the Central Business District (CBD) today, Thursday, April 9, 2026,” the police said.
Authorities explained that the proximity of the two venues has led to the creation of a shared security zone, prompting the temporary closure of several key roads.
The affected areas include City Hall Way, sections of Wabera Street near City Hall, and the Supreme Court/Parliament roundabout.

“We urge motorists to use alternative routes and follow the directions of traffic officers on site. We regret any inconvenience caused,” the statement added.
Traffic officers have been deployed across the CBD to manage movement and guide motorists. Drivers entering the city centre from Mombasa Road and Haile Selassie Avenue have been advised to use Moi Avenue, Kenyatta Avenue, or University Way to avoid the affected zones.
Motorists heading towards KICC are encouraged to access the area via Harambee Avenue, Kenyatta Avenue, or Taifa Road, while those traveling towards Westlands or Uhuru Highway can divert through routes such as Harry Thuku Road, Processional Way, or Nyerere Road.
Police further advised motorists not heading into the CBD to use bypass routes including Uhuru Highway and Waiyaki Way to avoid congestion.
Authorities assured the public that normal traffic flow will resume once the events conclude and security operations are scaled down.
