MP Peter Kaluma causes melee online after calling out Babu Owino for accusing Interior PS Raymond Omollo of sponsoring goons

A fresh political storm has erupted online after Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma sharply criticised Embakasi East MP Babu Owino over claims linking Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo to alleged goon attacks in Nyanza.

The heated exchange comes in the wake of a recent assault on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi in Kisumu, an incident that has sparked political blame games, investigations, and rising tensions across the region.

Kaluma Fires Back

Taking to social media, Peter Kaluma launched a stinging attack on Owino, dismissing his accusations against Omollo while referencing the MP’s past controversies.

“Kenyans joke a lot; when you see Babu Owino, he who shot DJ Evolve twice in the neck and is still free, calling PS Omollo a goon!” Kaluma quipped.

The remarks immediately triggered a storm online, with Kenyans divided between those backing Kaluma’s hard-hitting stance and others accusing him of deflecting from serious allegations raised by Owino.

Peter Kaluma has consistently defended Omollo, insisting that the Principal Secretary is being unfairly targeted for matters outside his mandate.

He argued that criminal investigations fall under the National Police Service, not the Interior PS, and warned against politicising security issues.

The Accusations Against Omollo

The controversy stems from claims led by Owino, who has accused Omollo of sponsoring goons to disrupt dissenting voices in Nyanza.

The allegations gained traction following the violent attack on Senator Osotsi at a Kisumu hotel, which left him injured before he was airlifted to Nairobi for treatment.

Owino, a vocal and often controversial figure in Kenyan politics, has been pushing for accountability and even called for Omollo’s resignation, arguing that the region is experiencing politically instigated violence.

The MP’s claims have also drawn support from some opposition leaders, further intensifying the political fallout.

Leaders Split As Tensions Rise

The dispute has exposed deep divisions among leaders from the Nyanza region. While Owino and his allies insist on holding Omollo accountable, a faction led by Kaluma has dismissed the claims as baseless and politically motivated.

Kaluma and like-minded leaders argue that blaming the PS is a distraction from the real issue, identifying and prosecuting those directly responsible for the violence.

Authorities have since arrested several suspects linked to the Osotsi attack, with investigations ongoing as pressure mounts for answers.

Political Undertones Ahead Of 2027

Analysts say the escalating war of words reflects broader political realignments in the region as leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 general election.

What began as a security concern has now morphed into a high-stakes political battle, with accusations, counter-accusations, and personal attacks dominating public discourse.

For now, Kaluma’s explosive remarks have only added fuel to an already volatile debate, one that continues to play out fiercely both in political circles and across social media.
