Rigathi Gachagua ‘s DCP unveils real estate guru John Mwaura as preferred candidate for Kiambu gubernatorial seat

The Democratic Citizen Party (DCP), led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, has officially unveiled real estate executive John Mwaura Kogi as its preferred candidate for the Kiambu gubernatorial seat in the 2027 General Election, signaling the party’s early push to consolidate influence in the vote-rich county.

Mwaura, the Chief Executive Officer of Finsco Africa, was introduced during a high-profile event at the party’s Nairobi headquarters.

His entry into the race reflects a broader shift in Kenya’s political landscape, where professionals from the private sector are increasingly stepping into elective politics, bringing with them corporate experience and development-focused agendas.

During the unveiling, Rigathi Gachagua emphasized the party’s strategic direction of fronting candidates with proven track records in business and management.

He described Mwaura as a visionary leader capable of steering Kiambu County toward accelerated economic growth, improved infrastructure, and better service delivery.

“Kiambu deserves leadership that understands investment, planning, and sustainable development. Mwaura represents that new wave of leadership,” Gachagua stated, underscoring the party’s confidence in its chosen candidate.

Mwaura’s profile in Kenya’s real estate sector has grown steadily over the years, positioning him as a key player in land investment and property development.

However, his political journey is not without controversy. He previously served as treasurer of the Urithi Housing Cooperative Society, an entity that has faced public scrutiny over past operations.

Despite this, DCP leaders have dismissed concerns, insisting that Mwaura possesses the integrity and capability needed to transform Kiambu.

Political analysts view his nomination as a calculated move by the party to tap into Kiambu’s entrepreneurial base and appeal to a growing demographic of voters seeking technocratic leadership over traditional politics.

With the 2027 elections still on the horizon, Mwaura is expected to embark on an aggressive grassroots mobilization campaign across Kiambu County.

Early activities are likely to focus on building alliances, engaging local leaders, and crafting a development agenda tailored to the county’s urban-rural dynamics.

Kiambu, known for its strategic proximity to Nairobi and its economic significance, is expected to witness a fiercely contested gubernatorial race, with multiple political factions already positioning themselves.

As political alignments continue to take shape, Mwaura’s candidacy sets the stage for what could be one of the most closely watched county battles in the run-up to 2027.
