Police in Mombasa have launched investigations following the death of a one-and-a-half-year-old child after a choking incident in Kisauni Sub-County, Mombasa County.
According to police, the incident was reported on Thursday at New Shepard Community Clinic.
The minor was reportedly being fed blended matoke by a house help when he choked before being rushed to the medical facility for emergency treatment.
Doctors who attended to the child conducted a physical examination and established that he had no central pulse, no heartbeat, and was not breathing.
Medical personnel also noted fixed and dilated pupils before confirming the child was dead.
Police officers visited the facility and documented the incident. Afterwards, the body was moved to the Coast General Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem examination.
Elsewhere, police in Kisumu East Sub-County are investigating an electrocution incident that claimed the life of a 62-year-old woman in Kiluthi area on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Pamela Ngeso Omer. Police said she was electrocuted while feeding chicken inside a store adjacent to her house.
Preliminary investigations established that a metallic bed inside the store had come into contact with an open socket containing exposed electrical wires.
The woman is believed to have been electrocuted after touching the metallic bed.
Her body was found lying on the floor next to the bed. Her body had no visible physical injuries.
Police documented and processed the scene.
Afterwards, the body was moved to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem examination.
The case remains under investigation by detectives from Kisumu East.
Such incidents have been on the rise with officials blaming use of quacks in wiring projects and illegal power connections.
Police and Kenya Power and Lighting officials say up to three cases are reported weekly in the country. This statistic is deemed to be high.
Officials have also been running campaigns to address the menace now taking place both in urban and rural areas.
