Veteran East African musician Kidum has dismissed widespread reports linking him to a grisly road accident in Nairobi that sparked concern among fans across the region.
The confusion began after photos of an overturned Range Rover circulated online on Thursday, with several social media pages and blogs alleging that Kidum had been travelling in the vehicle alongside Kenyan musician Brian Sigu.
Reports further claimed the celebrated singer had fractured his hand during the accident and had been rushed to hospital for treatment.
As the reports spread rapidly online, fans flooded social media with messages of concern and prayers for the singer’s recovery.
Some public figures and bloggers also shared the claims, further fueling speculation that the “Mapenzi” hitmaker had narrowly escaped death.
However, Kidum has now set the record straight.
In a statement shared online, the veteran singer clarified that he was not the person involved in the accident.
According to him, the confusion stemmed from another musician who is also nicknamed “Kidum” due to his drumming background.
The singer explained that he had actually travelled out of the country before the accident occurred and was on a business trip in Asia.
He also revealed that he had recently performed in Burundi and thanked fans for supporting the show.
While distancing himself from the crash reports, Kidum still expressed sympathy for the injured musician and wished him a quick recovery.
The accident itself had generated massive reactions online after musician Brian Sigu reportedly posted an emotional message saying he had “seen death” following the terrifying incident.
Images shared online showed the badly damaged Range Rover lying on its side with shattered windows and debris scattered on the road.
The incident once again highlighted the dangers on Kenyan roads, especially involving high-speed crashes in Nairobi.

In recent months, several public figures and entertainers have survived serious accidents, sparking renewed conversations about road safety and reckless driving.
Despite the false reports, Kidum remains one of the most respected musicians in East Africa.
Born Jean-Pierre Nimbona, the singer built a successful music career in Kenya after relocating from Burundi during the civil war in the 1990s.
Over the years, he has released numerous hit songs blending Afro-fusion, rumba and zouk influences, earning a loyal fan base across Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi.
Some of his most popular songs include “Yaramenje,” “Number Moja,” “Mapenzi,” and “Shamba,” collaborations that helped cement his place among East Africa’s music legends.
The clarification from the singer has since brought relief to fans who feared the worst after the shocking crash photos emerged online.
