Sonko suspends NEDP party activities over claims of corruption

Former Nairobi Governor and NEDP party leader Mike Mbuvi Sonko has suspended all party meetings until further notice, warning members against attending unauthorized gatherings being convened in his name.

In a strongly worded statement issued, Sonko said some party officials and individuals were mobilizing aspirants and members without his approval, prompting him to halt all meetings as the party reorganizes its internal structures.

“Any meetings being convened using my name as Party Leader are unauthorized and should not be treated as official party engagements,” Sonko said.

He urged party members and aspirants to stay away from any meetings until the New Democratic Economic Party (NEDP) resolves its internal matters and streamlines its structures.

The former governor also raised concerns over alleged unauthorized fundraising within the party, cautioning members against sending money to any till numbers, paybill accounts, or individuals claiming to collect funds on behalf of the party.

“I am not aware of such collections, and no proper accountability has been provided regarding monies collected so far,” he said.

Sonko advised those who may have already contributed money to immediately seek refunds, insisting that the party does not support the exploitation of aspirants or members through unauthorized financial contributions.

He further stated that any official communication regarding party affairs or contributions would only be issued directly through recognized party channels under his authority.

“Any other communication should be treated as fake, misleading, and unauthorized,” he warned.

The announcement comes amid growing political realignments and heightened activities among political parties ahead of the 2027 General Election.
