Man shot and seriously injured by armed gang in Migori


A 29-year-old man is fighting for his life after he was shot by an armed gang shortly after arriving home from Nairobi in Kuria West Sub-County, Migori County.

The victim was attacked on Sunday evening near St. Kizito area in Ntunyigi, according to police.

Police said the victim had arrived in Kehancha town from Nairobi at around 7.30 pm and was walking to his residence when he encountered a three-man gang. One of the suspects was armed with a rifle while the other two carried pangas.

During the attack, the gang shot him in the left leg before fleeing the scene.

Members of the public rushed the injured man to Oasis Hospital in Kehancha Township, where he received first aid before being referred to Migori County Referral Hospital for specialized treatment. He was reported to be in serious condition.

Officers from Kehancha Police Station and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kuria West launched an extensive search for the attackers and patrolled the area following the incident. However, the suspects had not been traced by the time of the report.

Police said investigations are ongoing to establish the motive behind the attack and identify those responsible.

The area has been experiencing a rise in general crime amid calls for action to address the menace.

In some instances, victims have been shot and killed or injured in attacks. Police said there is a special squad pursuing the cases so far reported and some arrests have been made so far.
