Worker, 57 electrocuted while pruning trees in Bungoma


A 57-year-old man died after being electrocuted while pruning trees in Kiminini Sub-County, Bungoma County.

According to police, the incident was reported at around 1:50 p.m. on Thursday, June 11.

The victim identified as Francis Muruli was electrocuted and died on the spot while carrying out tree-pruning duties.

Police officers and Kenya Power and Lighting officials visited the scene and established that the deceased was trimming trees along a perimeter fence when a branch he had cut fell onto overhead power lines. The resulting contact caused a fatal electric shock.

Police processed and documented the scene before the body was removed to Kiminini Cottage Hospital Mortuary for preservation pending a post-mortem examination.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing, as authorities continue to urge members of the public to exercise caution when working near electricity infrastructure.

Elsewhere, a 48-year-old man died after reportedly slipping on rocks and falling into a pond along a water stream in Rachuonyo North Sub-County, Homa Bay County.

Police said a man had slipped in a rocky section of a stream and fallen into a pond at Liera Village, dying at the scene.

Police officers visited the scene and found the body of Michael Juma, 48, lying in the pond of running water.

A preliminary examination of the body revealed injuries on the forehead, believed to have been sustained during the fall.

The scene was processed and documented by investigators before the body was moved to Gendia Adventist Hospital Mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Police have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident, which has been recorded as a sudden death.

A team of detectives revisited the scene as part of the probe into the death. They wanted to know if he was thrown therein or fell accidentally.

And police in Nandi County are investigating the death of a three-year-old child who was found lifeless at his family’s home in Chesumei Sub-County.

According to the police, the incident happened in Cheplengu area, Kapngetuny Location on June 11.

Police officers visited the home and found the body of the child, lying motionless on a couch.

The child’s mother informed investigators that her son had been born with deformities and was unable to walk or speak.

Police processed and documented the scene before transferring the body to Samaritan Farewell Home mortuary for preservation pending a post-mortem examination.

Authorities have classified the matter as a death under investigation, with detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Nandi Central taking over the case to establish the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
