Decomposing body of missing man recovered in Mandera County


Police in Mandera County recovered the decomposing body of a man who had been reported missing more than a week ago in Kotulo Town.

According to police, the body was discovered on Monday during a routine patrol near Model Girls High School in Kotulo Sub-County.

The deceased was later identified as Emmanuel Wekesa, who had gone missing on June 18 after leaving his residence in Kotulo Town.

Police said a missing person report had been filed at Kotulo Police Station on June 21 by the deceased’s uncle who works with a Chinese contractor undertaking the B9 road construction project in the area.

Crime scene investigators processed the scene before the body was moved to Wajir Sub-County Hospital Mortuary for preservation and a post-mortem examination.

Police have launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding Wekesa’s death. Police believe he was murdered but they were yet to establish the motive.

And police have launched investigations into the murder of a 32-year-old man following a fight at a bar in Buuri West Sub-County, Meru County.

The incident occurred at about 10.30 p.m. on Sunday at Stockman Bar in Sirmon Market, about 12 kilometres southeast of Timau Police Station.

According to police, Brian Muthethia was involved in a disagreement with another man while at the bar owned by Glory Ngugi.

The disagreement reportedly escalated into a violent fight during which Muthethia sustained fatal injuries.

Responding police officers found his body lying on its back in a pool of blood. He had suffered a deep cut on the left side of the neck and another serious injury at the back of the head.

The suspected murder weapon was not recovered at the scene.

Crime scene investigators processed and documented the area before the body was moved to the Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.

Police have launched a manhunt for the suspect as investigations into the killing continue.
