Controversial preacher Pastor Victor Kanyari has once again stirred debate after alleging that his late ex-wife, gospel singer Betty Bayo, financed her own dowry during her marriage to Hiram Gitau, popularly known as Tash.
Speaking during a sermon in one of his church services, Kanyari claimed that many women secretly shoulder major financial responsibilities in their marriages before making the explosive allegation about Betty Bayo’s traditional wedding.
According to the preacher, Betty allegedly gave Tash the money that was later used to pay her own dowry.

“Alijitolea yeye mwenyewe. Kama ninadanganya, mamake ajitokeze aseme ni uongo. Hata ndugu zake wajitokeze waseme ni uongo,” Kanyari declared during his sermon.
The outspoken pastor insisted he was speaking the truth and challenged Betty Bayo’s mother and brothers to publicly deny his claims if they were false.
Kanyari Says Many Women Silently Finance Marriages
While addressing his congregation, Kanyari argued that numerous women in Kenya end up financing different aspects of their relationships, claiming Betty’s case was not unique.
His remarks quickly spread across social media, triggering heated discussions among Kenyans.
While some netizens believed his claims, others argued that regardless of who provided the money, what mattered was that the customary marriage ceremony was successfully conducted.
Betty Bayo and Tash’s Relationship
Betty Bayo and Tash tied the knot after dating for a relatively short period.
Their traditional wedding attracted widespread attention online, with the couple often sharing photos and videos celebrating their union.
Before marrying Tash, Betty had been married to Pastor Kanyari.
The two were blessed with two children before their marriage collapsed following the infamous “Sh 310 miracle” scandal that rocked Kanyari’s ministry several years ago.
Despite their separation, the former couple maintained a co-parenting relationship and occasionally spoke respectfully about one another publicly.
Kanyari’s Recent Public Statements
Since Betty Bayo’s death in late 2025, Kanyari has frequently spoken about their past relationship, often describing her as someone he deeply loved despite their separation.
He previously revealed that he had hoped they would one day reunite before she remarried, saying:
“I really loved her so much. I used to think she would just move around and return to me.”
Kanyari also said he had never stopped respecting Betty and considered her the first and most significant woman in his life.
Mixed Reactions Online
As expected, Kanyari’s latest remarks generated mixed reactions across social media platforms.
Some users supported his decision to reveal what he claimed was the truth, while others criticized him for discussing private family matters involving someone who is no longer alive to respond.
Neither Betty Bayo’s family nor Tash had publicly responded to Kanyari’s latest allegations at the time the claims were reported.
