President William Ruto ‘s motorcade was involved in a road accident on the Embu-Meru Highway on Sunday, July 5, while the Head of State was travelling to Embu for a church service.

Emergency responders, police officers and members of the public quickly rushed to the scene to rescue the victims before they were transported to nearby health facilities for treatment.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the exact number of those injured or the extent of their injuries.

Videos shared on social media showed the badly damaged private vehicle alongside a tow truck as rescue operations continued.

The crash also caused a temporary traffic snarl-up along the busy highway, forcing authorities to clear the wreckage before the presidential convoy could proceed.

Eyewitnesses at the scene claimed the Ruto ‘s convoy vehicle was travelling at high speed before the collision occurred.

In one widely circulated video, concerned residents could be heard urging those clearing the road to move quickly.

“Hurry up! Hurry up! Engineer, the president is coming. There was a personal car that was also here,” witnesses are heard saying in the footage.

While preliminary reports suggest the speeding convoy vehicle collided with a civilian car, investigators are yet to establish the exact circumstances that led to the crash.

Police are expected to conduct further investigations before releasing an official report on the incident.

The accident has once again sparked debate over the speed and safety of VIP motorcades on Kenyan roads, with many Kenyans on social media calling for greater caution to protect other road users.

As of Sunday evening, there had been no official statement from William Ruto or State House regarding the accident or the condition of those injured.
