Man found dead near Kisii hospital amid murder probe

Police in Kisii County have launched investigations into the suspected murder of an unidentified man whose body was discovered near Ram Hospital in Kisii town on Monday morning.

According to police, the incident was reported at about 11:30 a.m. by a member of the public, who alerted officers after finding an unconscious man lying near the hospital.

Police officers, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), and Scene of Crime personnel responded to the scene and found the lifeless body of an African male believed to be about 25 years old, lying face down.

A preliminary examination revealed that the deceased had sustained a fractured left hand, a deep cut wound to the head, and multiple injuries and scars on the back, suggesting he may have been assaulted before his death.

Crime scene experts processed and documented the scene before the body was moved to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending identification and a post-mortem examination.

Police have opened a murder investigation to establish the identity of the deceased, determine the circumstances surrounding his death, and trace those responsible. No arrests had been made by Monday afternoon.

Elsewhere, police in Kakamega County arrested five members of the same family after a 30-year-old man died while undergoing treatment following an alleged assault.

The incident was reported on Friday, prompting officers to visit Emulunya Village in Emasatsi Sub-location, Kisa East.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased, identified as Justus Mkaka Aswani, was allegedly assaulted by his cousins at about 1:00 a.m. after they accused him of breaking window panes and causing a disturbance while appearing intoxicated.

A relative rushed Aswani to Vihiga Teaching and Referral Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.

Police who examined the body at the hospital mortuary noted a large swelling on the back of the head and bruises on the right thigh.

Investigators also recovered a hammer believed to have been used during the assault, and it has been retained as an exhibit.
