Police in Bungoma County launched investigations into the death of a 36-year-old man who was found unconscious with severe head injuries along the Myanga–Bukirimo Road on Tuesday night.
According to police, the incident was reported at about 11:35 p.m.
A local told police that while riding home from Myanga Market at around 9:30 p.m., he encountered a group of youths taking part in traditional circumcision celebrations, locally known as Kuminya. He slowed down and gave way to the procession. Although the youths initially confronted him, they allowed him to proceed after recognizing him.
A short distance later, near St. Dennis Libolina Special School along the Myanga–Bukirimo Road, Khisa came across a man lying unconscious by the roadside. He recognized the victim but received no response when he called out to him.
With the help of a passer-by, the injured man was placed on a motorcycle and rushed to Epic Lifecare Clinic in Myanga Market. However, he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The deceased was identified by relatives as Evans Wabwire Masinde, 36.
Police officers visited both the scene and the clinic, where they found the body lying on its back, dressed in blood-stained clothes. Preliminary examination revealed head injuries, with blood oozing from the mouth and nose.
Crime scene investigators processed and photographed the scene before the body was moved to the Bungoma County Referral Hospital mortuary, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to establish the cause of death.
Detectives have launched investigations to determine how Masinde sustained the fatal injuries and whether his death was linked to the traditional circumcision procession or another incident.
