A dormitory at Machakos School was destroyed by fire on Thursday evening, leaving students counting losses after the blaze razed the building and its contents.
The fire broke out at about 6.45 p.m. in Musau Senior Dormitory, which accommodates about 100 students in Grade 10, Form Three and Form Four, police and the school administration said.
Police officers who responded to the scene established that the fire was first spotted by the school watchman while students were in their evening classes. An alarm was immediately raised, prompting a response from the Machakos County Fire Brigade.
Firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze, but the dormitory and all its contents were completely destroyed. No property was salvaged from the building.
No injuries or fatalities were reported during the incident.
Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) personnel processed the scene, while investigators launched inquiries to establish the cause of the fire, which remained unknown by Friday morning.
