Police in Migori County are investigating the brutal killing of a 21-year-old man whose body was found along the banks of the Migori River hours after his family held his grandmother’s burial.
The body of Stephen Fedha, a 21-year-old man, was discovered early Thursday morning at Milimani Apondo area in Suna West Sub-County.
According to police, the incident was reported at about 4.30 a.m. by relatives, prompting officers from Oruba Police Station and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Suna West to visit the scene.
The victim’s body was found lying on the river bank with multiple deep cut wounds to the chest, face, legs and left hand.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the family had held the burial of the deceased’s grandmother on Wednesday, July 22.
Police believe that at around midnight, a group of youths from the Magina and Nyikendo areas of neighbouring Suna East Sub-County attacked Stephen for reasons that are yet to be established before dragging him to the river bank, where his body was later found by his father.
Crime scene investigators documented and processed the scene before the body was moved to the Migori Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination.
Detectives have launched investigations to establish the motive behind the killing and identify those responsible. No arrests had been announced by Thursday.
And a two-and-a-half-year-old boy has died after drowning in a shallow pool of water at his grandfather’s homestead in Vihiga County.
According to a police report, the incident occurred at about 5 p.m. on Tuesday in Tiriki East Sub-County.
The child, identified as Gabriel Inyanje, was reportedly playing near a shallow pool where gold residues are usually washed when he slipped and fell into the water.
Police officers from Cheptulu Police Station, accompanied by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Hamisi, visited and processed the scene.
The body was moved to Jumuia Hospital Mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police have launched further investigations into the circumstances surrounding the drowning.
