Man drowns in Nairobi river while trying to cross to safety


A 30-year-old man drowned in the Nairobi River in Shauri Moyo, Nairobi, after he reportedly fell into the water while attempting to cross the river.

The deceased was identified as Joseph Kinyanjui.

Police said Kinyanjui had called his mother at about 1:30pm on Monday, August 10, saying that he was feeling unwell.

His mother reportedly sent a boda boda rider to pick him up and take him to hospital.

However, when the rider arrived in the Shauri Moyo Blue Estate area, he was informed by a second person that Kinyanjui had fallen into the Nairobi River while attempting to cross it.

Police officers visited the scene and found Kinyanjui’s body floating in the river.

The body had no visible physical injuries and was retrieved before Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) officers processed the scene.

The body was later moved to Nairobi Funeral Home pending a postmortem examination.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the drowning.

And police in Kyuso, Kitui County, are investigating the killing of a 20-year-old man who was allegedly stabbed with a knife by a person known to him.

The deceased was identified as David Kimwele, a resident of Inyanzae Village in Kavaani Location.

The incident was reported to Ngomeni Police Station at about 1pm on Monday, August 10, 2026, by the victim’s father, Kimwele Kathumbi.

According to the police report, David was allegedly attacked and stabbed by a man known to him.

The suspect reportedly fled the scene after the incident and remained at large as police launched a manhunt.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the stabbing and the motive for the attack.
