Drama Unfolds As Laikipia North MP Sara Korere Confronts Gachagua And Local Leaders Over Use Of Vernacular At Burial Event

In a dramatic turn of events, Laikipia North MP Sara Korere boldly confronted Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and other local leaders during a burial ceremony, criticizing them for using vernacular language that left some mourners feeling excluded.

Addressing the crowd at the event, Korere sharply remarked, “Hapa sio Nyeri, kwendeni huko,” which translates to “This is not Nyeri, go there,” as she urged leaders to consider the diverse audience when speaking.

Korere also took the opportunity to apologize on behalf of Senetor John Kinywa, who had addressed the mourners in vernacular, a move that some felt alienated them from the message being shared.

“I apologize to the people of Kiwamariga for the use of a language that left some feeling disconnected,” she said.

The MP criticized political leaders who, in her view, often use vernacular languages that not everyone understands, pointing out that such behavior risks isolating certain groups.

She further recalled advice from the former Deputy President, who had urged her to leave the Azimio coalition, a suggestion she chose not to follow.
