A two-year-old child drowned after allegedly slipping into a pool in Arombe village, Suna West Sub-County, Migori County.
The incident occurred on Friday, August 28, 2026.
The deceased was playing near a pool estimated to be one metre deep with another child, five-year-old, when he allegedly slipped and fell into the water.
The child raised the alarm, prompting neighbours to rush to the scene and retrieve the child’s body from the pool.
Police officers who visited the scene said the body had no visible injuries.
It was removed and taken to the Migori Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary, where it was preserved pending a postmortem examination.
Police have commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
And a 30-year-old shepherd drowned while fetching water from the Ororwi River near Kwirabo village in Igena Sub-location, Kuria West, Migori County.
The incident occurred at about 1pm on Friday, August 28, 2026, and was reported to Kehancha Police Station at 2.48pm by Samuel Rogoro.
Police officers from Kehancha Police Station, accompanied by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Kuria West, visited the scene and established that the deceased, identified as Asheri Mwita, was drawing water from the river when he is suspected to have accidentally fallen into the water.
A red Bajaj motorcycle and several empty 20-litre jerrycans were found at the scene. One of the jerrycans was still floating on the river when police arrived.
The body was retrieved from the river and examined by police officers. There were no visible injuries.
It was subsequently moved to the Kehancha Sub-County Hospital mortuary for preservation pending a postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.
Police have launched inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the drowning.
