Man stabbed to death, suspect lynched in Migori mob justice


A 32-year-old man was stabbed to death following a quarrel at Kurutyange Shopping Centre in Kuria West, Migori County, before an angry mob lynched the suspected attacker and set his body on fire.

Police said the incident occurred on Sunday, September 6, 2026, after James Tingo Ireso got into an altercation with 31-year-old Zacharia Chacha Marwa at the house of his mother at Kurutyange Shopping Centre.

According to police the two men quarrelled over an issue that was not immediately established. Marwa, intervened before the disagreement escalated into an altercation between him and Tingo.

Police said Marwa then went into the house and returned armed with a knife, which he allegedly used to stab Tingo several times on the head, chest and back.

He fled the scene after the attack.

Tingo was rushed to Migori Life Care Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. His relatives later moved his body to the mortuary at Kehancha Sub-County Hospital.

Members of the public subsequently traced Marwa and intercepted him.

The police report states that the crowd subjected him to mob justice before setting his body on fire.

The mob also descended on his mother’s house, removed household belongings and set them ablaze outside the residence at Kurutyange Shopping Centre.

Police officers from Kehancha Police Station and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations in Kuria West visited and processed the two scenes.

The bodies of the two men were moved to Kehancha Sub-County Hospital mortuary pending postmortem examinations as investigations continue.

And a 19-year-old man was attacked and fatally injured by unknown assailants while walking home from work in Ugunja, Siaya County.

The deceased, identified as Collins Odhiambo, was attacked on Sunday night after alighting from a boda boda approximately one kilometre from his home.

Odhiambo had left Ugunja town at about 10.30pm after completing his work as a loader at Opunde Hardware.

He boarded a boda boda that took him to a point about one kilometre from his home before the rider left him to walk the remaining distance.

Police said Odhiambo was attacked by unknown people while walking along a pathway in Urefu area, CMM Oparo Village, Ugunja Sub-County.

He sustained a deep cut to the head and another injury on the left side of his eye.

His body was discovered along the pathway and police officers who visited the scene moved it to Homeground Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination.

Police have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the killing and the identity of the attackers.
