Detectives are investigating an incident where a 21-year-old woman was found stabbed to death inside a house in Umoja Two, Nairobi, on Tuesday afternoon in what police suspect was a case of intimate-partner violence.
Francisca Wanja Thuranira was found lying unresponsive on a bed at her aunt’s house on the second floor of a residential plot.
She had been stabbed eight times.
Thuranira’s aunt told police she left her at home in the morning as she went to work.
Around midday, she tried calling her niece on her mobile phone but received no response.
She then sent a neighbour to check on her.
The neighbour found the house open and, upon entering, discovered Thuranira lying on the bed unresponsive.
Police officers were called to the scene and found the young woman lying on the lower deck of a double-decker bed.
She had sustained eight stab wounds to the chest.
Police said the motive was suspected to be a relationship that had turned sour, with the victim’s boyfriend being treated as the main suspect. His identity was not immediately established and he was yet to be traced.
Crime scene officers processed the scene before the body was moved to the Mama Lucy Kibaki Referral Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination.
Detectives have launched investigations as they pursue the suspect and seek to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing, Nairobi police boss Issa Mohamud said.
Elsewhere, a 49-year-old man was found dead inside his rental house in Imara Daima, Nairobi, after relatives and a caretaker detected a foul smell coming from the locked premises.
Samuel Mugo’s lifeless body was discovered on Tuesday after his sister accompanied by a caretaker visited the house in the Kobil area.
The house was locked from inside when they arrived, while a foul smell was coming from within.
On looking through the premises, they noticed Mugo’s naked body lying on the floor and alerted police.
Police responded to the scene and gained entry by breaking down the door.
Mugo’s body was found lying in a supine position. Police said the date and time of his death were not immediately known.
There were no visible injuries on the body, although blood was seen oozing from his mouth.
Crime Scene Investigation officers from Embakasi documented the scene before the body was moved to the Nairobi City Funeral Home, where it was preserved pending an autopsy.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding Mugo’s death.
