Oga Obinna Laments as Goons Take Over Different Parts of the Country Ahead of 2027 Polls

Kenyan comedian, media personality and content creator Oga Obinna has voiced his concern over the growing wave of violence and alleged goonism being witnessed in different parts of the country, warning that the trend paints a worrying picture as Kenya edges closer to the 2027 General Election.

On Saturday, June 4, Obinna took to his social media platforms to lament what he described as the alarming rise of goonism in Kenya.

His remarks come amid increasing public concern over violent confrontations witnessed during political gatherings and demonstrations in recent months, with analysts and leaders warning that organized groups of youths are increasingly being used to intimidate opponents and disrupt public events.

Through his Instagram page, the entertainer shared a video showing suspected goons and wananchi engaged in fierce physical confrontations, with the groups exchanging blows in chaotic scenes that have since sparked widespread reactions online.

Reacting to the footage, Obinna questioned the direction the country is taking barely two years before Kenyans head to the ballot in the 2027 General Election.

Accompanying the video, he posted an emotional caption expressing disappointment over what he sees as the erosion of democratic values.

“How did we get here. 🤦🏿‍♂️ What happened to DEMOCRACY🤦🏿‍♂️. Slowly turning into BANANA REPUBLIC💁🏿‍♂️.”

The post quickly attracted thousands of reactions, with many Kenyans echoing his concerns over the growing incidents of politically linked violence and insecurity, while others called on authorities to restore law and order before the country enters the heated campaign period.

Obinna’s remarks come at a time when discussions around “goonism” have dominated Kenya’s political conversation.

Security experts, political analysts and civil society groups have raised concerns over the alleged recruitment of organized gangs to disrupt protests, political meetings and public gatherings, warning that the trend threatens democratic freedoms and public safety.

The government has also acknowledged the growing concern. Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen recently announced a nationwide crackdown on criminal gangs and individuals involved in orchestrating violence, insisting that those found culpable would face the full force of the law.
