Police in Ndhiwa, Homa Bay County, are investigating the death of a 40-year-old woman whose body was found outside a bar along the Ndhiwa-Sori Highway.
The deceased was identified as Joyce Aoko Akumu, a waiter at Status Club in Ndhiwa Township.
According to police, her body was discovered at about 6.20am on Saturday, September 19, 2026, lying approximately one metre outside Turphy Bar in Ndhiwa Township.
Police officers who visited the scene found that Joyce had no visible physical injuries but was reportedly oozing vomit from her mouth, prompting suspicions that she may have been poisoned.
The body was identified by her workmate who told investigators that he had last seen Aoko at her workplace at about 3pm on Friday.
Preliminary investigations established that Joyce had reportedly booked a lodging room on the second floor of the bar in the company of an unidentified man.
Police said there were footprints suggesting that the woman may have been dragged from the room downstairs and left outside the bar.
Several items were recovered during the scene examination, including a maroon undergarment, a cream-coloured bra, yellow slippers and a Samsung smartphone.
Detectives processed and documented the scene before moving the body to Ndhiwa Sub-County Hospital Mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination to establish the cause and circumstances of her death.
Police are seeking to establish the identity and whereabouts of the man who was reportedly with Joyce at the lodging.
And a27-year-old man was found dead in Kombok Dam in Rachuonyo South Sub-County, Homa Bay County, days after he allegedly attempted to take his own life.
Police identified the deceased as Fred Otieno Omondi, whose lifeless body was discovered floating on the dam on Friday evening, September 18, 2026.
The body was reportedly spotted by a villager while floating on the water.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the deceased had three days earlier jumped into a well in an apparent suicide attempt but was rescued by neighbours.
The circumstances that led to his death at the dam remain under investigation.
Police processed and documented the scene before the body, which had no visible physical injuries, was moved to the Rachuonyo Hospital mortuary pending an autopsy to establish the cause of death.
Suicide has been a leading cause of death in the country amid efforts to address the menace.
