Entertainer Steve Thompson Magana, popularly known as Oga Obinna, has taken legal action against social media personality Geoffrey Mosiria over statements he alleges were defamatory and damaging to his reputation.
Through his lawyers, Otieno Ogola & Company Advocates, Obinna issued a demand dated September 17, 2026, seeking an apology, retraction, removal of the alleged defamatory material and Sh10 million in damages.
The demand letter, addressed to Mosiria in Nairobi, is titled:
“Demand for an Apology, Immediate Cessation, Removal, Retraction and Damage for Libel and Slander Against Steve Thompson Magana (Oga Obinna).”
Lawyers cite social media statements
According to the letter, Obinna’s lawyers accuse Mosiria of making and circulating a series of statements about their client during 2026, primarily through his TikTok account and other social media platforms.
The lawyers argued that Mosiria’s sizeable online following meant that statements published on his platforms could reach a significant audience and potentially affect Obinna’s reputation.
The letter specifically refers to a TikTok video in which Mosiria allegedly said:
“My brother Obinna as a brother I think you need to seek Jesus in your life, you need to go to church repent your sins and ask God to keep you away from trouble especially you have associated yourself with two musicians who are celebrities and what followed is unfortunate.”
Obinna’s legal team further claims that other statements linked the entertainer to a number of serious incidents and consequences, including accidents, deaths, suicide, addiction, humiliation, loss of fortune, loss of popularity and the alleged destruction of the careers of people who had appeared on his programmes.
The claims in the demand letter are allegations made on behalf of Obinna and have not, from the documents provided, been determined by a court.
Obinna’s lawyers demand apology and retraction
The lawyers demanded that Mosiria immediately and unconditionally retract and desist from making, publishing, repeating, sharing or circulating the statements complained of.
They further demanded that any retraction and apology be given the same or substantially similar prominence, placement, duration and audience reach as the publications Obinna considers defamatory.
The lawyers also demanded that the apology expressly acknowledge that the allegations connecting Obinna to the various incidents were false and lacked factual foundation.
Another demand was for Mosiria to publish an unequivocal public apology through newspapers with wide circulation in Kenya.
The letter also seeks a written undertaking from Mosiria that he would cease and desist from making further allegedly false and defamatory statements concerning Obinna.
Sh10 million compensation demanded
At the centre of the demand is a claim for Sh10 million.
Obinna’s lawyers demanded that Mosiria admit liability and settle the amount as damages for what they describe as reputational injury, distress and embarrassment allegedly caused to their client, as well as damage to his standing and goodwill.
The lawyers also demanded that Mosiria delete, or cause to be deleted, copies, extracts, clips, reposts and reproductions of the disputed material from his TikTok account and any other social-media platform or publication under his control.
Seven-day deadline issued
The demand letter gave Mosiria seven days to comply with the demands.
The lawyers warned that failure to comply would result in instructions being given to commence legal proceedings against him, with the letter stating that such proceedings would be undertaken without further reference to him and with costs being pursued.
The dispute has now drawn attention because of the substantial amount demanded and Obinna’s apparent response to the legal development.
Obinna:
“Hata sitaki mingi just 10M”
Reacting to the demand, Obinna appeared to take a humorous tone while addressing the KSh10 million figure.
He wrote:
“Ni Ushugu sanaaaa!! Nayo nayo.
Hata staki mingi just 10M. Siku Saba zili-isha, we proceed😝👌🏿🤣. Wengi wenu hamjui Defamation ni nini,na how Lucrative it can be ukishika tu mmoja wao. Wacha niwashow.”
His remarks suggest that he believes the seven-day period provided in the demand has elapsed and that the matter could now proceed to the next stage.
The legal dispute places renewed focus on the risks that public figures and social-media personalities face when making allegations about other individuals online, particularly where such statements are widely circulated.
For now, the documents show a demand for Sh10 million and other remedies, rather than a court judgment awarding Obinna the amount.
The eventual outcome would depend on whether the parties resolve the matter or the dispute proceeds through the courts.
