Police in Migori County launched a manhunt for a fisherman suspected of killing his colleague following a dispute over a fishing net at Got Kachola Beach in Nyatike Sub-County.
The victim, identified as Wycliffe Odhiambo, 44, was found dead at the beach early Saturday, September 26, 2026.
According to police, the incident was reported at about 6:20am by the deceased’s brother, who told authorities that Odhiambo had been fatally injured following an altercation with a colleague.
Police officers visited the scene and found Odhiambo’s body lying on the ground.
Preliminary investigations indicated that Odhiambo had been involved in a disagreement with another fisherman, allegedly over a fishing net.
Police said the suspect fled the scene after the incident and efforts were underway to trace and arrest him.
The body, which police said had swelling around the neck, was moved to Migori County Referral Hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the killing are ongoing.
And a family in Migori is seeking answers after a 40-year-old boda boda rider who had been missing for two days was found dead in River Migori.
The body of Collince Rabongo was recovered from the river on Saturday morning in the Ombo area, Migori Town.
According to police, the incident was reported after a resident, identified as Benard Otieno, alerted authorities that a body was floating in the river at around 8:15am.
Police officers rushed to the scene and recovered the body from the water.
Preliminary investigations established that Rabongo had been reported missing on September 24, 2026, after leaving his home to operate as a boda boda rider within Migori Town.
He did not return home, and his whereabouts remained unknown until his body was discovered in the river.
Scenes of Crime personnel processed the scene before the decomposing body was moved to Migori County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending an autopsy.
Police have launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding his death.
