A 44-year-old man who had been reported missing in May has been found dead in River Kamangu in Imenti South, Meru County.
The body of Martin Gichunge, was discovered on Friday, September 25, 2026, at around 5:50pm after police received a report of an unidentified body in the river.
Police officers responded to the scene and identified the deceased as Gichunge.
Gichunge had been reported missing on May 24, 2026, with his disappearance circulated to police stations through an official police signal.
Police said his body was found lying in a supine position in the stream and appeared to have been in the water for several days. It was also partially decomposed.
The scene was processed and documented by investigators as they began inquiries into the circumstances surrounding his death.
The cause of death had not been established by the time of the discovery.
His body was removed from the river and taken to Kanyakine Sub-County Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a post-mortem examination.
Investigations are ongoing to establish how Gichunge ended up in the river and the circumstances leading to his death.
And a 30-year-old woman drowned in a water pan within her family compound in Elusi Village, Emuhaya Sub-County, Vihiga County, on Friday.
The deceased, identified as Jane Ayieta, was reportedly fetching water when she drowned at the water pan in the compound.
According to her mother, the family raised the alarm and attempted to resuscitate her before rushing her to hospital.
However, she died while efforts were underway to take her for medical attention.
Police officers visited and processed the scene. No physical injuries were observed on the body.
Police said Ayieta had a history of epilepsy and was undergoing medication at the time of the incident.
Her body was moved to Coptic Hospital mortuary for preservation pending a post-mortem examination.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the drowning are ongoing.
Meanwhile, police in Mandera Central are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 20-year-old man whose decomposed body was found by the roadside in Shimbir Fatuma.
The body was discovered on September 25, 2026, at around 5:45pm after the area chief, Abdisitar, reported the incident to Shimbir Fatuma Police Station.
Police who responded to the scene found the body of a male adult later identified as Shukri Mohamed Alio.
Police noted a visible injury around the deceased’s neck. Preliminary information indicated that Alio had been travelling towards Burduras on a newly acquired motorcycle whose registration number had not been established.
The scene was secured and photographed as officers documented the circumstances surrounding the discovery.
A clinical examination was conducted, but the cause of death could not immediately be established.
The body was later buried in accordance with Islamic rites.
Police are expected to establish how Alio died and trace the motorcycle he was reportedly travelling on before his death.
