13-year-old boy drowns in river Thangatha in Tharaka Nithi

A 13-year-old boy drowned while swimming in River Thangatha in Kiamurendi Village, Tharaka Nithi County, on Sunday.

The deceased was reportedly swimming in the river with three other children when he drowned.

According to police, a relative mobilised relatives to retrieve him from the river before he was rushed to Mukothima Catholic Health Centre at around 5pm.

However, a medical examination established that he had already died.

Police officers from Mukothima Police Post visited both the river and the health facility and confirmed the incident. The boy’s body had no visible injuries.

The body was moved to Marimanti Level IV Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending an autopsy.

Police have commenced investigations into the drowning.

Elsewhere, the body of an unidentified man was found in a deep swamp near a culvert in Navakholo, Kakamega County, on Sunday evening.

The deceased, believed to be aged between 30 and 35, was discovered at around 6:20pm near the Mukhweso–Kakamega Road junction in Nambacha Location.

Police officers visited the scene and began investigations.

Preliminary inquiries established that the man had been seen several times around Nambacha Market, where he reportedly appeared to be mentally disturbed.

Crime scene personnel processed and documented the scene before the body was moved to the Kakamega County Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary.

The body is awaiting identification and a post-mortem examination as police investigate the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.

Meanwhile, an 86-year-old woman was found dead in Lemook River in Kapseret, Uasin Gishu County, after she reportedly left home to take a bath.

The deceased, identified as Leah Tabsharika, was found lying in the river on Sunday, September 27, after she left her home at around 2pm carrying a bucket.

Police said the river was about 200 metres from her residence. Neighbours later discovered her body in the water and alerted authorities.

The bucket she had carried was reportedly found about 10 metres from her body.

Police said the woman had bruises on her face and hands. Preliminary indications suggested she may have slipped while attempting to cross a bridge over the river.

Crime scene officers photographed and documented the scene before the body was moved to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary pending preservation and a post-mortem examination.

The circumstances surrounding her death remain under investigation.

And a badly decomposed body of an unidentified man was retrieved from River Nyakwiri in Kuria West, Migori County, on Sunday.

The body was discovered in the river within Bukira Central Location.

Police officers visited the scene and recovered the body.

The deceased was identified as a middle-aged African man, but the extent of decomposition had made identification difficult.

The body was moved to Kehancha Sub-County Hospital mortuary, where it was preserved pending a post-mortem examination.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the man’s death and efforts to establish his identity are expected to continue.
