A retired police officer was arrested in Narok County over alleged incitement of Mau Forest invaders, with security officers recovering dozens of arrows and assorted police and military clothing from his possession.
The individual was arrested on Sunday, September 27, 2026, by a multi-agency security team operating under Operation Linda Mau.
Police described him as a prime suspect and alleged “great inciter” of people who have invaded the Mau Forest.
During the operation, officers recovered 50 arrows, some of them reportedly poisonous, alongside assorted government security equipment.
The items recovered from the man included three pairs of military boots, two NCO swagger canes, two force-coloured belts, a jungle belt, two pairs of jungle trousers, a smoke jacket, a smoke trouser and an item identified in the police report as a “58” with its straps.
Another suspect was also arrested after allegedly being found in possession of government stores, including a pair of military boots and a pair of jungle socks.
The two suspects are expected to be detained for further investigations.
The arrests come amid continued security operations in the Mau Forest aimed at addressing illegal settlements, forest encroachment and related security concerns.
Tensions have been rising in the area over among others claims of skewed compensation.
The catchment area is among key ones dependable for rains in the region. Invasions by locals have threatened the ecosystem prompting calls for action to address the menace.
