Concerns have been raised by Machakos MCAs following the mysterious disappearance of Dominic Maitha, the Member of County Assembly for Muthwani Ward.
The MCA has been missing for over 24 hours, sparking fears for his safety.
Speaking outside the Machakos County Assembly, Kinanie MCA Francis Kavyu, along with his Mbiuni counterpart Peter Kilonzo, urged the immediate release of Maitha, alleging his abduction.
They have also accused the Machakos County government and Governor Wavinya Ndeti of being involved, citing his recent threats to table an impeachment motion against the governor.
Kavyu expressed concerns, saying, “We are here to inform the public about the disappearance of our colleague, Dominic Maitha Ndonye, MCA for Muthwani. His whereabouts have been unknown since yesterday.
Last week, he made strong statements about seeking to impeach the governor. For over 15 hours now, we have been unable to trace him, and his phones are switched off.”
He continued, “We have tried reaching out through numerous calls but have no information. We urge the public and security forces to help us find him.
The county government should know where he is and should provide us with information, especially considering the political tensions surrounding the Speaker’s impeachment.”
This disappearance comes amid escalating political tensions within the Machakos County Assembly.
A faction of MCAs recently signed an impeachment motion against Assembly Speaker Ann Kiusya.
Reports also indicate that around 30 MCAs have gone to Mombasa in preparation for the impeachment vote scheduled for Friday.
The missing MCA had publicly spoken out during a bursary event in Ngalalya last week, threatening to push for Governor Ndeti’s impeachment due to alleged misconduct, including misuse of public funds and employment irregularities.
He also accused the governor of being behind a plot to oust the assembly speaker, alleging she had bribed MCAs to support the motion.
“I want to make it clear that you’ve ignored us, treated us with disrespect, and now you have engineered an impeachment motion against the Speaker.
I am announcing that next week, I will sponsor an impeachment motion against you,” Maitha had said.
He further criticized the governor, stating, “You can use stolen funds to bribe MCAs, but I assure you, the Speaker is not going anywhere.
We have enough evidence to show that Governor Wavinya has failed and is incapable of managing Machakos. Her work is to steal.”
Maitha drew a comparison to the impeachment of Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza, saying, “You are no different.
Just like Governor Kawira, who ignored the MCAs in Meru and is now at home, it’s not too late for us to remove you because you’re not serving the people.
In Muthwani, we generate almost sh.5 million daily from quarries. In a year, that’s over sh.1 billion, excluding government funds. Yet, what has changed in our ward?”
He ended with a warning to the governor, saying, “You are not immune from consequences,” referencing the controversial Machakos Youth Service project, which allegedly received sh.800 million without legal authorization.
