Bryan Adams started by joining the rock band Sweeney Todd at just 15 years old. With the band, he re-recorded their hit single “Roxy Roller” which reached number 99 on the US charts.
After leaving the band at 16 years old, he met songwriter Jim Vallance. Together, they wrote not only his songs but also for major artists including Tina Turner, Kiss, Rod Stewart, Bonnie Raitt and Joe Cocker.
In 1978, he signed with A&M Records and released his first single, “Let Me Take You Dancing” which charted in Canada.
His self-titled debut album Bryan Adams debuted in 1980, followed by You Want It You Got It in 1981. The latter produced the radio hit “Lonely Nights”.
Most importantly, his album Cuts Like a Knife, released in 1983, marked the start of his success. The album went Platinum thrice in Canada and produced international hits such as “Straight from the Heart” and “Cuts Like a Knife”. Another significant achievement was his globally recognized single “(Everything I Do) I Do It For You” which became one of the biggest hits in music history. It spent 16 consecutive weeks at number one in the UK (a record that still stands) and seven weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Remarkably, the song also won a Grammy Award, a Golden Globe nomination and an Academy Award nomination.
In 1991, he released Waking Up the Neighbours, topped at number one in multiple countries and went Diamond in Canada. In addition to this, he also won the Juno International Achievement Award and Canadian Entertainer of the Year.
His 1995 single “Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman?”, topped at number one in the US, Canada and Australia. It was also nominated for an Oscar, Grammy and a Golden Globe. The following year, he released the album 18 til I Die topped the UK Albums Chart and went multi-platinum in several countries.
