Police in Juja, Kiambu County, are investigating the murder of a 54-year-old caretaker who was found dead at a house under construction in the Caanan area.
The deceased, identified as Michael Kanyeria, was discovered on September 15, 2026, after his brother reportedly went to visit him at his place of work and residence.
The brother found Kanyeria lying unresponsive in a pool of blood inside a makeshift kitchen at the construction site.
The body was found lying on its back, with a polythene sack covering the head. Police said there was a fresh, deep open wound at the back of the head, from which the bleeding appeared to have occurred. Bruise marks were also observed at the back of the neck.
Preliminary observations indicated that there were no visible signs of a struggle or disturbance in the surrounding area. Investigators suspect the attacker or attackers may have approached the victim from behind and struck him with a weapon, which was not recovered at the scene.
The motive for the killing had not been established by the time of the report.
The owner of the property, who resides in Ruiru along the Eastern Bypass, reportedly told police that she was shocked by the incident.
She said she was unaware of any dispute or threats involving the property and that the deceased had not reported receiving threats or fearing for his life.
Scenes of Crime personnel from Juja processed and documented the scene before the body was moved to General Kago Mortuary in Thika, where it is awaiting autopsy.
And police in Kirinyaga West are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an infant whose body was found floating in River Sagana.
