Dancehall star Frankie Dee pays emotional tribute to the late Ali B


Kenya’s music industry continues to mourn the loss of one of its most respected coastal music pioneers, Ali Khamisi Mwaliguli, popularly known as Ali B.

The late veteran artist was widely celebrated for his immense contribution to the growth of Coastal music and his unwavering efforts to uplift emerging talent from Mombasa and beyond.

Before his untimely death, Ali B had mentored numerous young creatives who looked up to him for guidance and inspiration.

Among those deeply influenced by his artistry is Kenya’s renowned dancehall sensation Frankie Dee, also known as the Dancehall Beast.

On Monday, November 3, 2025, Frankie Dee took to social media to share an emotional post honouring the fallen legend.

In his tribute, the Dancehall MSA-signed artist shared a nostalgic photo of himself alongside Ali B and a female fan, accompanied by a heartfelt caption that struck a chord with fans and fellow musicians alike.

Frankie Dee expressed that Ali B was not just an inspiration to him, but to an entire generation of artists from Mombasa who admired his passion, humility, and dedication to the craft.

He further lamented that the Coastal and Kenyan music scene suffered a huge blow following Ali B’s passing.

“Hapa kwa Ally B tulipoteza mtu wa maana na tena msanii mkubwa sana. Tukiwa wadogo wasanii wengi tulikuwa tunapewa morali sana na kazi zake. Watu wangu wa Mshomoroni especially Ngangari Base najua mnatambua sana huyu legendary. Siku ikiruhusu pia inafaa tupige memorial festival yake moja hapo mtaani. Mshomoroni is home of talent — mayouth wengi wameanzia hapo. Keep resting in peace Solja, it’s two years since you transitioned to glory,” Frankie wrote.

In his message, the artist called on fellow musicians from the Coast to come together and organize a memorial festival in honour of Ali B, whom he described as a “true legend” who deserves to be celebrated for his lifelong contribution to music and culture.

It is important to note that Frankie Dee and Ali B had a couple of years ago worked on a collaborations that shook the East African airwaves.

The collaborations was such a masterpiece that it trended for over a month on all online music streaming platforms.

The Life and Legacy of Ali B

Ali B passed away in November 2023 after a short illness.

He died at Makadara Hospital in Mombasa, where he was receiving treatment.

His brother, Mohammed Ramadhan, confirmed the news, revealing that the musician had returned home feeling unwell before being rushed to the hospital, where he later succumbed.

Reports indicated that Ali B had been battling pneumonia and had recently been discharged before his condition worsened.

While some speculated other health complications such as high blood pressure, official reports confirmed that he succumbed to pneumonia at the age of 37.

Ali B’s death sent shockwaves across Kenya’s entertainment industry, with fans, artists, and cultural stakeholders mourning the loss of the “Maria” hitmaker, who left behind a lasting impact on Kenya’s coastal soundscape.

As tributes continue to pour in, Frankie Dee’s heartfelt message serves as a reminder of Ali B’s enduring influence, not only as an artist but also as a mentor, a cultural icon, and a symbol of hope for young musicians from the Coast.
