Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Embakasi have arrested a 42-year-old suspect and recovered a stolen firearm following an intelligence-led operation in Nairobi.
The suspect, identified as John Bosco Munyao, was apprehended in Nairobi’s Central Business District after investigators pursued leads linked to the theft of a firearm belonging to a licensed gun holder.
According to the DCI, the operation was conducted under the command of the Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer (SCCIO) Embakasi and was aided by forensic analysis that helped trace the suspect.
“Acting on intelligence leads and guided by painstaking forensic analysis, detectives mounted a swift and coordinated operation that culminated in the arrest of the prime suspect,” the DCI said in a statement.
Following his arrest, Munyao reportedly led detectives to his residence in Kangemi, where officers recovered the stolen Glock pistol concealed inside a suitcase among clothes.
During the search, investigators also recovered 17 rounds of ammunition and two magazines believed to belong to the firearm.
“The stolen Glock pistol was recovered hidden inside a suitcase at the suspect’s residence. Detectives also recovered seventeen rounds of ammunition and two magazines,” the statement added.
Police have secured the recovered firearm and ammunition as exhibits as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the theft and whether additional suspects may have been involved.
The suspect remains in lawful custody and is expected to be arraigned in court once investigations are completed.
The DCI reiterated its commitment to combating firearm-related crimes and ensuring stolen weapons are recovered before they can be used in criminal activities.
“We remain vigilant in tracking down suspects involved in firearm theft and other crimes, and we will continue leveraging intelligence and forensic capabilities to bring offenders to justice,” investigators said.
