Detectives dismantle narcotic syndicates in covert double operation in Kibra, Nairobi

In a decisive crackdown on narcotic drug networks, detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU), in collaboration with the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) and the Operations Action Team (OAT), have successfully disrupted two interconnected drug syndicates operating in the Karanja area of Kibra Sub-County.

Acting on credible intelligence, the multi-agency team first targeted a residence linked to illegal drug trafficking.

Police identified the premises of 51-year-old Ahmed Juma Wanjiru, conducting a meticulous search that uncovered 14 packages of suspected narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.

The substances were packaged in non-woven and ziplock bags, indicative of distribution intent.

Additional items recovered included empty ziplock bags, two digital weighing scales, Sh31,700 in cash, an international vaccination certificate in the suspect’s name, and a Samsung Galaxy A05 mobile phone.

Wanjiru was arrested on the spot and is currently in custody at a government facility, while all recovered exhibits were secured at the DCI headquarters.

The house, occupied by Sofia Burhan Marjan, yielded seven packages of suspected narcotic drugs, additional quantities stored in a basin, two rolled packages, four weighing scales, scissors, a rolling flag, a metallic smoking pipe, and assorted polythene packaging materials.

Investigators also recovered legal documents including a cash bail receipt, a charge sheet, and multiple witness statements, indicating the suspect’s prior involvement in criminal proceedings.

Marjan was arrested and is currently held at Muthaiga Police Station, with all exhibits transferred to the DCI headquarters for forensic analysis.

These back-to-back operations highlight the DCI’s continued commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks and protecting communities from the dangers of narcotics.

The public is urged to continue providing information that can aid in the fight against illicit drugs.
