Five men were arrested after a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) exploded outside Dalton Hotel in Murang’a town.
The incident occurred on Friday, October 2, 2026, prompting police officers from Murang’a Police Station to rush to the scene.
According to police, officers established that five male adults had detonated an improvised device made from metal components, an unknown powder and wooden parts.
Police said the suspected ringleader, had allegedly strapped three additional suspected explosive devices to his body. The devices were fitted with switches and connected using electrical wires and a battery.
Officers recovered six unused suspected IEDs and one device that had already been detonated.
The suspects and recovered devices were taken to Murang’a Police Station as investigations continued.
Relevant authorities, including specialised security agencies, were notified to assist with the investigation and handling of the suspected explosives.
The motive of the incident was not immediately known.
