Police in Nairobi launched investigations after the body of an unidentified young man was found floating in the Nairobi River in the Gathondeki area.
The body was discovered on Friday, October 2, 2026, at about 12:27pm.
Officers from Kabete Police Station, accompanied by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), visited the scene and recovered the body of a male estimated to be about 18 years old.
Police said the body had injuries to the head, raising suspicion that the man may have been killed before his body was dumped in the river.
No identification documents were found on the deceased, and his identity remains unknown.
The scene was documented by Crime Scene Investigation officers from Dagoretti before the body was moved to the City Mortuary for preservation, identification and postmortem examination.
Police have launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the man’s death, including the motive and how he ended up in the river.
And a 26-year-old man who had been reported missing three days earlier was found dead in Rungiri Dam, Kabete Sub-County, Kiambu County.
The deceased, identified as Daniel Wambugu Watene, was found floating in the dam on Thursday, October 2, 2026.
Wambugu had reportedly gone missing, with a missing-person report filed at Kikuyu Police Station on September 28, 2026, at about 2:36pm.
Police officers from Kanyariri Police Station responded to the incident, while Scene of Crime personnel from Dagoretti processed the scene.
The body was retrieved from the dam with the assistance of private divers. Police said no visible physical injuries were found on the body.
The remains were taken to St Teresa Hospital Mortuary, where they are being preserved pending a postmortem examination to establish the cause of death.
Police investigations are ongoing.
