Seven people, including suspected bandits, lost their lives in incidents related to theft and cattle recovery in Isiolo and Samburu counties on Monday.
In the Bojidare area, a group of armed bandits invaded Manyattas around 2:30 AM, opening fire while stealing approximately 250 cows and 300 goats.
A multi-agency team from the National Police Service, including the Kenya Police, Anti-Stock Theft Unit, and National Police Reservists, pursued the thieves, successfully recovering all 300 goats and 30 cows.
Unfortunately, two individuals died during the attack, and three others were injured.
The wounded were transported to Isiolo District Hospital for medical care, while the deceased were returned to their families for burial in accordance with Muslim customs.
In another incident in the Hola Bule area, armed bandits raided a home, firing shots and stealing 19 head of cattle.
It was reported that one man was fatally shot, and two others, including a National Police Reservist, sustained gunshot wounds.
Fortunately, all 19 stolen animals were retrieved, and the deceased’s body was taken to Isiolo County Hospital Mortuary for preservation.
In Samburu County, two bandits were killed near the River Waso area in Samburu East, with the recovery of 211 stolen cattle.
Deputy Inspector General of the Administration Police Service, Gilbert Masengeli, along with the Eastern Regional Security team, arrived in Isiolo to evaluate the security situation and facilitate ongoing operations to restore peace.
Reinforcement units from Isiolo Police Station, the Anti-Stock Theft Unit, and National Police Reservists have been deployed, and investigations are underway by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
The National Police Service expressed gratitude to community members for their support during these operations.
