Police in Bungoma County launched investigations into the brutal murder of an 18-year-old Form Three student whose body was found dumped in a sugarcane plantation on Wednesday morning.
The deceased, identified as Bornface Wambete, was a student at Mulima Secondary School and a resident of Wabukhonyi Village in Bungoma North Sub-County.
According to police, the incident was reported at Wabukhonyi Police Post at about 9:45 a.m. by the victim’s father who said his son had left home at around 4 p.m. on Tuesday to visit Wabukhonyi Market but never returned.
The distraught father told police that at about 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, he received a call from a member of the public informing him that his son’s body had been spotted in a nearby sugarcane plantation.
Police officers visited the scene and found the body lying in a sugarcane field along the Naitiri–Wabukhonyi rough road.
Preliminary examination revealed that the deceased had sustained deep cuts on both legs, a broken left leg and multiple bruises across the body, indicating he may have been subjected to a violent assault before being killed.
Crime scene officers photographed and documented the scene before the body was moved to Naitiri Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
Police said the motive behind the killing remains unknown and investigations are underway to identify those responsible.
The murder has shocked residents of Wabukhonyi, who are calling on investigators to expedite the probe and bring the perpetrators to justice.
