Comedian Eric Omondi has confirmed to the world that losing a close family member has never been an easy experience.

The comedian turned philanthropist has candidly opened up about the deep personal losses that have shaped his life, revealing that despite his public strength and humour, he is still battling wounds that time has failed to heal.

In an emotional interview with Chris Da Bass, Omondi disclosed that losing several close family members over the years has taken an immense toll on him, but nothing compares to the pain of losing his younger brother, Fred Omondi.

As earlier reported by Nairobi News, Fred Omondi died on June 15, 2024, in a horrific road accident, news that sent shockwaves across the country.

Tributes poured in from fans, fellow comedians, and public figures, mourning a talent gone too soon.

While the burial came and the world seemingly moved on, Eric admits his own healing has not begun.

“I have buried my mother, my father, and my brother,” Omondi shared, his voice heavy with emotion.

“But with Freddy, even now as I sit here, I am not healed. Sometimes I just choose to ignore the pain.”

The entertainer revealed that he lost his mother in 2002, his father in 2004, and another brother in 2016.

Though each loss broke him in different ways, he says he eventually found the strength to carry on, until Fred’s death shattered that resilience.

According to Omondi, the bond he shared with Fred was unlike any other.

The two grew up together, moved to Nairobi together, and hustled side by side as they chased their dreams in comedy.

“I don’t know if it’s because we grew up together, or because we came to Nairobi and struggled together,” he said.

“We were just too close. My auntie once told me she knows I’ll never truly heal, that I’ll live with this pain forever.”

Fred Omondi was a rising star in Kenya’s comedy scene, widely loved for his humour and warmth.

On the night of the tragedy, he was riding a boda boda along Kang’undo Road when the motorcycle was involved in a devastating head-on collision with a matatu, leaving him with fatal injuries.

Confirming the severity of the crash, Laugh Industry board member and Churchill Show director Ken Waudo noted that the impact was exceptionally forceful.

As Eric Omondi continues to inspire many through his philanthropic work and public advocacy, his revelation offers a sobering reminder that behind the laughter lies a man carrying profound grief, one that fame, time, and success have not been able to erase.
