TikTok is one of the most engaging social media platforms, allowing users to view, share, and repost entertaining content. However, not all reposts are enjoyable to every user. If someone you follow keeps reposting videos that you find irrelevant, annoying, or repetitive, you might want to stop seeing those reposts without necessarily unfollowing the person. While TikTok doesn’t offer a direct “stop seeing reposts” button, there are a few steps and tricks that can help reduce or completely stop the reposts from showing up in your feed.
How Reposts Work on TikTok
When someone reposts a video on TikTok, it appears in the “For You” feed of their followers. This is different from original content, which is uploaded by the creator themselves. A repost is essentially a shared recommendation. If your mutuals keep reposting videos that don’t interest you, TikTok’s algorithm may start showing you more of that type of content unless you take action.
Use the “Not Interested” Feature
One of the most effective ways to train the TikTok algorithm is by using the “Not Interested” feature. When you come across a repost from someone you’d prefer not to see reposts from, tap and hold on the video. A menu will pop up. Select “Not Interested.” This signals to the TikTok algorithm that the content isn’t your preference. Over time, this will reduce the number of similar reposts shown in your feed.
Mute the User’s Activity
If reposts from a specific person are consistently showing up and affecting your TikTok experience, you can mute them without unfollowing or blocking. TikTok allows you to limit a person’s activity from appearing in your feed. Visit their profile, tap the three dots in the top right corner, and look for options that allow you to restrict or mute their interactions. While this won’t always guarantee a complete stop to reposts, it minimizes exposure significantly.
Unfollow or Limit Interaction
As a last resort, if someone’s reposts are interfering with your experience on the app and the other methods haven’t worked, you can unfollow them. While this may seem drastic, it’s an effective way to completely stop seeing reposted content from that person. TikTok prioritizes content from people you engage with the most, so reducing interaction or unfollowing will naturally clean up your feed.
Let the Algorithm Adjust
TikTok’s algorithm is dynamic. The more feedback you give—by liking what you enjoy and tapping “Not Interested” on what you don’t—the better it tailors your feed. If you consistently show disinterest in reposted content, especially from specific users, TikTok will eventually stop showing you their reposts.
