How to Transfer TikTok Data to Another Account

TikTok has grown into one of the most popular platforms for creating and sharing short videos. Over time, users accumulate a lot of valuable data — videos, drafts, likes, comments, followers, and even personal preferences. If you’ve decided to create a new account or switch from one profile to another, you may wonder whether it is possible to transfer all of your TikTok data to the new account.

While TikTok does not currently allow a direct, automatic transfer of all data from one account to another, there are several methods you can use to move or back up your information. This guide explains how TikTok data works, how you can download it, and the steps you can take to transfer important parts of it to another account.

What TikTok Data Includes

When TikTok refers to “your data,” it generally means:

  • Profile information – username, bio, profile picture, and account settings.
  • Videos – the content you have uploaded.
  • Drafts – videos saved but not yet published (only stored locally on your device).
  • Activity – likes, comments, watch history, and search history.
  • Followers and following list – the people connected to your account.
  • Messages – private conversations in your inbox.

Some of these (like drafts and followers) cannot be transferred directly, but you can use workarounds to keep them safe.

Step 1: Request Your TikTok Data

The first step is to download your TikTok data file. TikTok allows you to request a copy of your personal data from the app.

  1. Open the TikTok app and log into your current account.
  2. Go to your profile by tapping the bottom-right icon.
  3. Tap the menu (three lines) in the top-right corner.
  4. Select Settings and Privacy.
  5. Go to Account > Download your data.
  6. Choose the format (TXT or JSON) and tap Request Data.

TikTok will prepare your file, which may take up to four days. Once ready, you can download it directly from the app. This file includes your profile details, activity, and content information.

Step 2: Save Your Drafts

Drafts are stored only on your phone, not TikTok’s servers, which means they will not transfer to a new account automatically. To move them:

  • Open your drafts and save them to your device by posting them privately (visible only to you).
  • Once saved, download the videos from TikTok onto your phone.
  • Upload them again to your new account when you’re ready.

Step 3: Re-upload Your Videos

Your uploaded videos remain visible on your old account, but if you want them on your new account:

  • Download your videos from TikTok (using the save option if enabled).
  • Re-upload them to your new profile.
  • Add captions, hashtags, or sounds again if needed.

This process ensures your content carries over, even though TikTok doesn’t automatically sync it.

Step 4: Rebuild Your Followers and Following List

Followers cannot be transferred between accounts, as TikTok treats each account as independent. The best option is to:

  • Post an announcement video on your old account telling your followers you’ve moved to a new profile.
  • Add your new account handle in your bio or video captions.
  • Follow your old contacts manually from your new account.

Step 5: Transfer Messages (Optional)

Messages are also tied to your current account. You cannot export them directly, but you can screenshot important conversations or copy text before closing your old account.

Step 6: Use Your Data File

The data file you downloaded in Step 1 acts as a personal backup. While you cannot upload it directly to TikTok to restore your account, it’s useful for:

  • Keeping a record of your past activity.
  • Rebuilding your preferences, hashtags, or watch history on the new account.
  • Having proof of ownership if you ever need to verify details with TikTok support.
