TikTok allows users to engage with content by liking, sharing, and commenting. While comments can foster interaction and feedback, not every creator wants that feature turned on—especially when dealing with spam, negativity, or when sharing personal content. Fortunately, TikTok gives users full control over who can comment on their videos, and even the option to turn off comments completely. Here is how to turn off comments on TikTok.
Turning Off Comments Before Posting a Video
If you’re about to post a video and want to disable comments right away, TikTok makes that easy. After recording or uploading your video and adding effects or captions, you’ll reach the posting screen. On this screen, there’s a section titled “Who can comment on this video.” Tap on it and select the “No one” option. This ensures that once the video is published, no one will be able to leave comments on it. You can always return to this setting later and change it if you decide to enable comments in the future.
Disabling Comments on an Already Posted Video
In case you’ve already published a video but now wish to stop people from commenting on it, you can still disable the comment section. Go to your TikTok profile and find the video you want to update. Tap on the video to open it, then tap the three dots (or the share icon) on the right side of the screen. Select the “Privacy settings” option, then look for “Allow comments.” Toggle the switch off. Once this setting is turned off, all existing comments will be hidden, and viewers will no longer be able to add new ones.
Adjusting Comment Settings for All Future Videos
TikTok also lets users manage comment permissions for all future posts. This is useful if you consistently want to limit or prevent commenting. To do this, go to your TikTok profile and tap the three-line menu in the top right corner to access Settings and Privacy. Tap on “Privacy” and then select “Comments.” Under this section, you can choose who can comment on your videos—everyone, friends, or no one. Selecting “No one” will automatically apply this rule to every new video you post until you change it again.
