TikTok has grown into one of the most engaging social media platforms, allowing users to share, remix, and repost videos across the app. The Repost feature in particular makes it easy to share someone else’s video with your followers, much like a retweet on X (formerly Twitter). While it can be fun and convenient, not everyone enjoys having their videos reposted or seeing reposts in their feed.
The good news is that TikTok allows you to control reposts by adjusting your settings. Whether you want to stop reposting content accidentally or prevent others from reposting your videos, you can easily turn this feature off.
What Is the TikTok Repost Feature?
The Repost button appears when you tap the “Share” arrow on a video. If you select “Repost,” the video will appear in your followers’ “For You” feed with your username attached.
This feature was designed to help spread content more quickly, but some users find it overwhelming or intrusive. For example:
- You might repost a video by mistake.
- Your videos could be shared widely without your consent.
- Your feed could fill up with reposted content instead of fresh videos.
Why Turn Off TikTok Reposts?
Here are a few reasons why users choose to disable reposts:
- Privacy: To stop other people from resharing your videos.
- Control: To manage how and where your content appears.
- Cleaner Feed: To avoid seeing reposted videos instead of original ones.
- Accidental Reposts: To prevent mistakenly hitting the repost button.
How to Turn Off TikTok Reposts
Depending on whether you want to control your own reposting activity or stop others from reposting your videos, there are two main ways to do it.

Things to Note
- Even if you turn off reposts, people can still share your TikToks via direct message or download (if you’ve enabled downloads).
- You can always turn reposts back on later if you change your mind.
- Disabling reposts won’t affect the visibility of your videos in the “For You” feed.
